The Japan Gelato Association designated August 27th as "Gelato Day" and held a commemorative event the previous day, the 26th, at the Jiji Press Hall in Chuo Ward, Tokyo.
Association Chairman Takashi Sakai stated, "We designated August 27th as 'Gelato Day' to coincide with the date the film 'Roman Holiday' premiered in the United States in 1953. We hope families, lovers, friends, and other important people will enjoy a slightly more luxurious and special gelato than usual."
"Roman Holiday" depicts the love story between a princess, played by Audrey Hepburn, and a newspaper reporter, set against the backdrop of the incidents she causes during her visit to Rome. A memorable scene in the film shows the princess eating gelato.

Fashion model Angelica Michibata appeared as a guest at the venue, wearing a dress reminiscent of the era when the film was released. Looking like a princess, Michibata was appointed as the "Princess Gelato Ambassador" for the day and received a certificate. Noticing the name on the certificate was written as "Michibata Angelatto," she remarked, "It's so cute, I love it. I hope everyone eats gelato tomorrow and feels happy," actively promoting the event.

On stage, three gelato artisans active under the association unveiled original gelato creations developed exclusively for Ms. Michibata that day. She sampled the three varieties, crafted under the concept of "creative gelato that makes you feel like a princess," and praised each for its distinctive flavor. She looked thoroughly delighted as a handsome butler fed her the gelato.

The association operates the gelato information website "Ciao! Gelato" ( ciaogelato.jp ).
