International Conference "Culture is Capital: What is the Creative Economy?" Held Corporate Art Patronage Council

The Corporate Mecenat Council held the "—Culture is Capital—What is the Creative Economy? An International Conference by Creative Leaders and Business Leaders: Tokyo Session" at Dentsu Inc. Hall in Shiodome, Tokyo, on October 23.

    Corporate Mecenat Council Chairman Tatsuya Takashima (Chairman, Dentsu Inc.) First, Chairman Takashi Takashima (Chairman of Dentsu Inc.) of the Council stated, "The Corporate Mécénat Council will celebrate its 25th anniversary next February. Economy and culture are like the two wheels of a car; when they mesh well, a prosperous society is realized. We will continue to serve as a platform for sharing information with companies and others involved in cultural support, and to create society through art and culture."

 

Following this, a Creators' Session titled "Art that Opens Communities and the World" was held. Panelists included: Mariana Arteaga (Mexico), Curator and Artistic Director; Marco Kusumawijaya (Indonesia), Director of the Rujak Center for Urban Studies; Midori Kubota, Chairperson of Creative Support Lets; Makoto Nomura, Composer and Pianist; and Yusuke Hashimoto, Program Director of ROHM Theatre Kyoto / KYOTO EXPERIMENT. Moderator: Torao Osawa, Associate Research Fellow, Arts and Culture Project Office, NLI Research Institute.

The panel discussion "Creating Society through New Economy and Culture" featured Lee Byung-kwon, Secretary General of the Korea Mecenat Association; Motoki Ozaki, Advisor to Kao Corporation and Chairman of the Corporate Mecenat Council; Wendy O'Neill, Chair of the Asian Cultural Council; and Fram Kitagawa, General Director of the Setouchi International Art Festival/ Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. Taneo Kato, Managing Director of the Council, served as moderator. They introduced examples of regional promotion and international exchange through art and discussed the potential of art projects to solve social issues.
