President Ishii's Address at Dentsu Inc.'s New Year Work Commencement Ceremony ― Continuing to Challenge Innovation with Professionalism ―

Dentsu Inc.'s 2015 New Year's Work Commencement Ceremony was held at its Tokyo headquarters and other locations starting at 9:50 AM on January 5th. The Tokyo headquarters ceremony took place in the Dentsu Hall at the Shiodome headquarters building, where President Ishii delivered his New Year's address. The gist is as follows.

The resolve and attitude required for our work can be summed up in one word: "professionalism." It is precisely this professionalism – thinking through and seeing through each task to its absolute limit – that has been the driving force behind the Dentsu Group's development to this day.

Article 8 of the Dentsu Inc. "Ten Commandments," penned by our fourth president, Hideo Yoshida, states: "Have 'confidence.' Without confidence, your work lacks force, tenacity, and even substance." Believing in one's own abilities is crucial, but true confidence, born from the depths of one's heart, stems from the attitude of calmly examining oneself and never ceasing efforts to improve and evolve. Without realizing it, are we overestimating our own abilities? Have we allowed compromise or complacency to creep into our work? Taking it further, is our work truly creating value? As we begin this new year, each of us must once again calmly confront ourselves. This humble and sincere attitude will also be a major driving force guiding the Dentsu Group toward further growth and evolution.

Our clients, too, are repeatedly challenging themselves to expand their businesses and create new markets. Can we become a key player in the transformations our clients are pursuing, or will we remain mere bystanders watching from the sidelines? The Dentsu Group now stands at this crossroads.

Solving the challenges our clients face through our daily work should bring hope and vitality to the world. Let us view this major turning point not as a crisis, but as an opportunity for a leap forward, and pour our full energy into transforming the Dentsu Group itself.

The corporate philosophy of the Dentsu Group, "Good Innovation.", carries profound meaning. Innovation itself is merely a means. What this philosophy demands is understanding why and how to utilize the outcomes generated through innovation.

Let us remain a powerful team that challenges innovation with professionalism and continues to create value.
