Canon launched the EOS 8000D, a premium entry-level digital SLR camera, on April 17. To coincide, the company began streaming the web drama "The Boy Said, 'Let's Take the Long Way Around'" that same day. Starring actor Ken Mitsuishi, this original drama set on Shodoshima Island is dedicated to the generation around 50.
At a preview screening, Motoki Kobayashi, Manager of the company's Product Planning Division 2, stated: "We developed this EOS 8000D camera hoping that men around 50 years old, the so-called 'mid-50s' generation, would take up SLR photography as a hobby. We felt it would be difficult to resonate with mid-50s men through 15- or 30-second TV commercials, so we boldly produced a web drama. We crafted a drama that serves as encouragement for this generation, who are beginning to see the end of their corporate careers and harbor vague anxieties about life after retirement, conveying the message that there's still plenty of life ahead."
Following the premiere of Episode 1 on the same day, all 10 episodes will be released sequentially. Each episode is approximately 5 minutes long, and the theme song "My Life" was written by Motoharu Sano.
