McDonald's Japan held a new product and campaign launch event in Tokyo on January 25th.
Yasushi Fujimoto, General Manager of the Marketing Division, took the stage first. He revealed that the new product's name is currently "Juicy Beef Burger with Hokkaido-grown Crispy Potatoes and Cheddar Cheese, featuring a Special Onion Sauce with a Caramelized Soy Sauce Flavor (tentative name)". He announced the company's first-ever "Name Submission Campaign", where the public will be invited to suggest the official name. He also stated the campaign's aim: "By having customers suggest names that make them want to try it, feel familiar with it, and think it's fun, we also want to provide the enjoyment of naming."
Comedian Bakarhythm and Donald then took the stage, delivering witty banter about naming the "Name-Your-Own Burger." When Donald suggested names he deemed "unlikely to be chosen"—calling them "too long," "unreadable," or "off-topic"—Bakarhythm critiqued them. To find a viable name, he carefully observed the new product before tasting it. "The potatoes really stand out," he remarked. "The bacon is delicious too. The cheese really stands out. So does the caramelized soy sauce." He then announced his personal suggestion, "Burger Rhythm," adding, "Personally, I'd like to see this name used," drawing laughter.
As the temporary name suggests, this "Name-Your-Own Burger" features a hearty potato filling made with Hokkaido potatoes and butter for richness, paired with a rich-tasting cheddar cheese made from Hokkaido milk. The patty is 100% beef, topped with two slices of smoky bacon and caramelized onions sautéed in burnt soy sauce, all sandwiched between a special triple-layer bun. It's a truly substantial burger. Sales will be limited from February 2nd until mid-March (planned).
