The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee unveiled a new series of official licensed merchandise, the "Torch Relay Design Collection," at a press conference held 100 days before the start of the Olympic Torch Relay on December 17. Sales began sequentially starting the following day, December 18.
Comedians Mikiō Date and Takeshi Tomizawa of the comedy duo Sandwichman, who serve as official ambassadors for the torch relay, appeared wearing Olympic Torch Relay Mascot T-shirts. They promoted the merchandise's appeal with their signature banter, energizing the venue.
The Organizing Committee aims to build excitement for the Torch Relay, which begins on March 26, 2020, by rolling out merchandise featuring the Torch Relay emblem, pictogram, and mascot.
The diverse lineup of relay-themed merchandise includes T-shirts, polo shirts, flags, towels, stickers, pin badges, key chains, bags, and traditional crafts, totaling 254 different items.
As of the end of November, 4,570 officially licensed products have been released, and 68 official shops selling these products have opened nationwide.
