Based on the shared connection between Tonami City's name "Tonami" (which translates numerically to 1073) and "Meiji Probio Yogurt R-1," which uses "1073R-1 lactic acid bacteria," Tonami City and Meiji have formed a Health Management Partnership Agreement (Comprehensive Collaboration Agreement) and launched the "Project to Unleash the City's Strength" starting June 3rd.
This project is a new "co-creation initiative" where the city, R-1, and Tonami citizens work as one. It involves establishing a new cross-departmental project organization, the "1073 Health Management Team," within the Tonami City Hall. Through various "health promotion activities" and "city promotion" initiatives throughout the year, it aims to support improvements in both physical health (activity levels) and mental health (happiness) among citizens, as well as their ability to live happily and authentically (well-being).

Since 2005, Tonami City has been addressing its gradually declining population and low birthrate , "Nurturing Children Who Will Lead the Next Generation," "Strengthening Community and Family Bonds Across Generations" to support each other even in a post-pandemic society, and "Promoting Health for All Generations" so residents can live healthily and authentically throughout their lives in their familiar communities. Together with R-1, the city aims to contribute to healthier and happier lives for its citizens.
Meiji will not only provide opportunities to consume R-1 but will also continuously support various health promotion activities, helping Tonami citizens manage their physical condition. Through this project, we aim to put into practice R-1's mission: "Creating a state where the health of all individuals and the happiness of living each day with genuine smiles can be shared among close friends, communities, and society as a whole."
