Protect pears from pests! LIVE camera monitors wanted!

The sleep project "Nerenaosu," which transforms "time when you want to sleep but can't" into valuable time for yourself or others, is recruiting pest monitors to protect pears using that sleepless time.

"Nerenaosu" is a sleep project launched by volunteer members from Dentsu Inc. creative division. Based on the concept of "making the time before sleep nice," it engages in activities that transform sleepless hours into value. Rather than simply passing the time, it provides content that benefits others, such as social contribution activities, or benefits oneself, like pursuing qualifications.

One such initiative is the "Pest Animal Monitor" project. Using Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture as a test site, it involves monitoring pest animals like raccoon dogs and rats that damage farmland to protect crops. Using LIVE cameras installed in fields, a large number of people who can't sleep monitor the areas during the night when pests are active. When a pest is spotted, it's reported to the system, triggering an alarm in the field to scare the pest away. This system allows anyone to easily fulfill the role of a "monitor" from the comfort of their own bed, simply by using the time before they fall asleep .

Launched last September, this third round is recruiting monitors for a pear orchard in Fujisawa City. Project leader Kazuko Maruhashi of Dentsu Inc. explains, "While we call them monitors, no special registration is required.". You just watch the LIVE feed on YouTube whenever you can, keeping an eye out. If pests appear, you call a specific number to sound the alarm and scare them off. Anyone can easily participate. If you're having trouble sleeping, please come take a look sometime!" she says, highlighting its accessibility.

Mr. Sato, who runs a pear orchard in Fujisawa City and participates in this project, commented, "Many farmers suffer from pest damage. It's helpful to know where and what kind of pests are entering at night, and to be able to scare them away with an alarm the moment they appear. I hope this initiative succeeds and spreads to other orchards."

LIVE Broadcast Period: Currently streaming. Scheduled to continue until late September when pear harvesting ends.

"Nerenaosu" aims to continue providing content that helps people who know sleep is important but struggle to fall asleep. By effectively using the time before sleep, we hope to ease their stress and let them end each day feeling, "Today, I did something good, even if just a little."
