Cookpad, operator of Japan's largest recipe site, held its first user event, "Cookpad Awards 2014 ~Happy Christmas!~," at Ebisu Act Square in Tokyo on November 27.

Held under the concept "Make today's cooking even more fun! Experience Cookpad together, packed with delicious new discoveries!", the event invited 1,000 Cookpad users selected by lottery.

First, the Cookpad editorial team announced the "Cookpad Awards 2014" – 10 keywords revealing this year's food trends. The Grand Prize winner was "Salted Lemon." This seasoning, made by salt-preserving lemons, reportedly exploded in popularity on the site starting this April, with numerous recipes being posted.
Next, winners in the celebrity category were announced. Talent Mao Yuki was selected for the "Best Cooking Mom Award."
Taking the stage, Yuki commented, "Cookpad has been useful at every stage of my life—from being single, to marriage, childbirth, and raising children." She received the trophy along with the supplementary prize, a 100-year free pass to Cookpad Premium Service, and appeared deeply moved.
The "Best Cooking Couple Award" went to talent Kei Yasuda and her husband, Italian chef Yoichi Kozaki. A video message expressing her joy was shared from Yasuda.
At the venue, specially prepared party plates featuring keywords related to the winning entries were served, allowing attendees to enjoy dishes that highlighted this year's culinary scene.
