An Adventure Through Kyoto Beyond the "Miyako" The "Sea of Kyoto Expo" is scheduled to be held from summer to fall!
The Sea of Kyoto Expo Executive Committee (Chairman: Keiji Yamada, Governor of Kyoto Prefecture) will hold the "Sea of Kyoto Expo: Let's Go!" event from July 18 to November 15, 2015. This event will showcase the historical and cultural appeal, the charm of the sea and the towns, and the bounty of nature from seven cities and towns in northern Kyoto Prefecture (Fukuchiyama City, Maizuru City, Ayabe City, Miyazu City, Kyotango City, Ine Town, Yosano Town) to showcase the region's history, culture, coastal charm, towns, and natural bounty to the nation.

Facing the Sea of Japan, northern Kyoto Prefecture flourished since ancient times as a gateway for exchanges with the continent. Known as the "birthplace of Kyoto," it supported people's lives as a producer of textiles and food, and is also renowned as the land where many myths originated. In 2014, it was designated as a "tourism zone" under the Tourism Zone Development Act, promoting stays of two nights and three days or longer.
During the expo, the seven municipalities will host various core events highlighting local characteristics under the unified theme "Kyoto by the Sea." They will also offer stay plans allowing visitors to experience concepts symbolizing each region's uniqueness. Additionally, special tourism tickets and transportation passes developed in collaboration with local transport operators will be sold. Through numerous events and initiatives, the aim is to expand the exchange population for the future and revitalize the region.

On April 23, a joint press conference outlining the event details was held at the Kyoto Prefectural Hall, attended by Governor Yamada and the mayors of the seven municipalities. Governor Yamada stated, "With the full opening of the Kyoto Jukan Expressway in July, all conditions for tourism are now in place, making this the culminating event. We hope visitors will experience and enjoy Northern Kyoto and Sea of Kyoto during the festival."
The opening ceremony will be held in Miyazu City on July 18th. The following day, the main opening event, the "Water Projection Show," is scheduled at Yuhigaura Onsen and Hamazume Beach in Kyotango City. The climax will feature projections on Japan's largest water screen. Inspired by myths and legends passed down in Sea Kyoto, the show will offer a visual experience incorporating daily life and culture.

Towards the end of the festival period, on November 10th, the Takeoff Event "Sea of Kyoto Music Festival" will be held at the Nakatan Cultural Center in Ayabe City, praying for the leap forward of northern Kyoto Prefecture. World-renowned violinist Taro Hakase is scheduled to perform.
Through this event, visitors can discover another facet of Kyoto beyond just "Miyako."
