Experience the depth of gelato! "Gelato Expo" held
The Japan Gelato Association held its inaugural "Gelato Expo" at Omotesando Hills in Shibuya Ward on May 28. The Gelato Expo is a festival celebrating gelato, bringing together over 30 varieties. It featured 14 gelato artisans from across Japan, along with artisans who traveled to Japan from Italy, the birthplace of gelato, specifically for this event. Sergio Corallucci, who oversees the gelato shop at the Italian Pavilion at Expo Milano, and Mario Serrani, the gelato ambassador for the Italian Gelato Association working to promote gelato worldwide, expressed their enthusiasm: "We hope everyone in Japan can enjoy the charm of gelato, which is also part of Italian culture."

A press conference was held at the same venue the previous day, May 27th. Takashi Sakai, Chairman of the Japan Gelato Association, explained the event's purpose: "We organized the Gelato Expo hoping many people in Japan would experience the unique appeal of gelato, distinct from ice cream. We hope everyone thoroughly enjoys the wonderful gelato created by Japanese and Italian gelato artisans."
Guest celebrity SHELLY sampled four different gelato flavors made by four artisans from Italy and Japan, all using the same blueberry ingredient. She commented, "Even though they were all blueberry gelato, each had a completely different taste and was delicious. It's really deep." To commemorate the opening, she was presented with a bouquet of "gelato flowers" made from real gelato, and she appeared deeply impressed by their beauty.
With free all-you-can-eat gelato, large crowds arrived early on the day of the Gelato Expo. By the event's opening at 1:00 PM, a long line had formed. Approximately 2,000 attendees enjoyed tasting a variety of colorful gelatos, as well as stage events like the "Gelato Illusion" performance and the "Gelato Maestro Contest" featuring 12 Japanese artisans.
Before closing, announcements were made for August's "Gelato Day" and the upcoming "Gelato World Tour" scheduled for September, suggesting 2015 will continue to be a year of growing excitement for gelato.
