IKEA Completely renewing its kitchen systems for the first time in 20 years

IKEA Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of IKEA, the world's largest home furnishing company originating in Sweden, launched the "METOD" kitchen series in Japan on June 15th. This marks the first complete renewal of their kitchen series in 20 years. The name METOD comes from the Swedish word for "method" or "way."

On the 16 th, a press conference was held at IKEA Funabashi, where Chuck Bawering, Kitchen Sales Leader, gave a presentation. He explained that METOD's development involved extensive market research to understand changing lifestyles and focus on creating products that meet those needs, expressing confidence that it embodies the company's vision : "A better everyday life for the many people." He also stated that proposals tailored to Japanese homes are possible, such as providing components in sizes specific to Japan.

Interior Design Manager Rieko Takekawa highlighted product featuressuch as "unlimited combinations," "design and style," and "balancing style and functionality." She introduced functional elements like drawers within drawers and internal lighting that illuminates when opened.

Guest architect Keiji Ashizawa revealed that he has never used standard system kitchens in his own designs due to their limitations. He praised IKEA's kitchens for their "high degree of design and combination freedom," affordability, and the ability for customers to assemble them themselves, stating this is what a true system kitchen should be.

To commemorate the launch of METOD, IKEA will open the "IKEA METOD GALLERY" at MOSHI MOSHI BOX in Shibuya, Tokyo,for a limited time from June 20 to 28. In addition to kitchen displays, cooking expert Miyuki Shimamoto will host talk shows on Saturdays and Sundays during the period, introducing IKEA original recipes and kitchen ideas. IKEA kitchen specialists will also be on hand at the venue to answer questions and concerns about kitchens.
