Director J.J. Abrams began by greeting the audience in Japanese: "Hello." He emphasized, "The appeal of this film lies above all in the humanity of its characters. That transcends culture and country. I believe this new adventure will surely be loved by Japanese audiences, just as I love Japan." Regarding the casting, he stated, "Daisy, John, and the others are young, but they have strong hearts and talent. And above all, they have humor." Finally, as a "special gift for everyone in Japan," he revealed, "The planet 'Takodana' appears in this film. Actually, the first place I stayed in Japan was Takadanobaba, so I named it based on that," thrilling the audience.

Driver discussed his role as the villain Kylo Ren: "I was influenced by Japanese cinema, especially Kurosawa films. I studied 'Seven Samurai' and 'The Hidden Fortress'. Then I built my own character from there." Boyega added, "First time in Japan. The Japanese are amazing. I went to Akihabara and bought lots of cool stuff." Ridley spoke about returning cast members like Harrison Ford: "He's a very kind, wonderful actor. And he has a deep passion for Star Wars."
