The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held its fifth Project Review in Tokyo on January 21 and 22. This review is an administrative-level consultation where the Organising Committee confirms the progress of Games preparations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Following the schedule on the 22nd, a press briefing was held at the Organizing Committee's office in Minato Ward, Tokyo.
IOC Vice President John Coates stated, "This year is crucial as Tokyo takes over from Rio, with heightened domestic and international interest. This review confirmed Tokyo is well prepared." He reported discussions spanned legacies, sustainability, competitions, and the Paralympics. Regarding the New National Stadium's completion being brought forward to November 2019, he called it "welcome news for all stakeholders." He also revealed meetings with Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister in charge of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe. He stated that the support from the national government, local authorities, and numerous sponsor companies will be a major force in showcasing the excellence of the Tokyo Games to the world.

Organizing Committee Chairman Mori stated, "We had substantive discussions with the IOC and IPC." He noted that the preparations and revisions for stable venues, cost reductions, and Paralympic strategies received high praise. He expressed his desire to continue preparations under an all-Japan system, keeping the "One Team Approach" in mind. Regarding the Games emblem, he stated it would be announced this spring following a highly transparent selection process.
