Bandai held a launch event for its visual entertainment food toy "Hako Vision" at Omotesando Hills in Shibuya, Tokyo, on November 7th, announcing its release on January 27th, 2014.
Playing with "Hako Vision" is simple. Open the box, set the figure and clear plate inside, then scan the 2D code printed on the package with your smartphone. Press play on your smartphone and place it on top of the box. This groundbreaking food toy uses the latest "3D projection mapping" and "3D hologram" technology to project images inside the palm-sized box. For Bandai, which has been producing food toys for over 30 years, President Kazunori Ueno calls it "a product that could be called the future of food toys." Development lead Hiyuma Mihara stated, "Being moved by the projection mapping at Tokyo Michiterasu was the catalyst for developing this product."
Tokyo Michiterasu is an annual year-end light event held in Tokyo's Marunouchi area. Ryotaro Muramatsu, the visual director for the 2012 event "Tokyo Michiterasu 2012 'TOKYO HIKARI VISION'," also served as supervisor for this product. Mr. Muramatsu suggested the potential of "Hako Vision technology" (Japanese patent pending), stating, "We want to deliver the thrill of live footage, not virtual images. We want many people to experience it."
During a talk session featuring talent Risa Yoshiki, comedians Yusuke Makio and Uda Iwasaki of the duo Kamomental, Yoshiki in a sexy & sparkling dress, Makio in cute cross-dressing, and the dapper Iwasaki performed a "Girl Power Showdown Short Skit." They unfolded the Kamomental World themed around "Hako Vision."

The first release features two types: "Tokyo Michiterasu 2012 / TOKYO HIKARI VISION" and "Tokyo National Museum / KARAKURI," which was held at the Nippon TV 60th Anniversary Special Art Exhibition "Kyoto - The Beauty of Rakuchu Rakugai-zu and Shoheki-ga." A second release featuring characters is planned for next spring. For details, visit the "Hako Vision" homepage.
