Dentsu Inc. rolls out G Free (Ginza Free Wi-Fi) across all floors of Tokyu Plaza Ginza.

On April 8, Dentsu Inc. announced the expansion of G Free (Ginza Free Wi‑Fi), a joint initiative with Wireless Gate, OOH Media Solution, Inc., and CES, to cover the entire Tokyu Plaza Ginza building. Tokyu Plaza Ginza was grandly opened by Tokyu Land Corporation on March 31.

The installation of G Free began in October 2012, coinciding with the Tokyo hosting of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank Annual Meetings. Its goal was to establish easily accessible Wi-Fi along Ginza's streets, available "anytime, anywhere, for anyone, free of charge."

The four companies participate in the "Wireless LAN Environment Construction Support Project" promoted by the Ginza Street Association and the All Ginza Association, with support from the Chuo Ward Office of Tokyo. Ahead of major sporting events and large-scale international conferences in Tokyo, G Free was already implemented along Ginza-dori in September 2012, Harumi-dori in November 2013, and Namiki-dori (Ginza Nishi Namiki-dori Association) in November 2015, achieved through collaboration with respective street associations (shopping districts) and commercial facilities.

The new Ginza symbol, "Tokyu Plaza Ginza," boasts 165 access points. This marks the first deployment of G Free within a large-scale commercial facility. Coverage extends to all areas from the third basement floor to the 11th floor above ground and the rooftop. Similar to Ginza Street, the building's interior becomes an extension of Ginza, enabling comfortable Wi-Fi access.

Moving forward, the four companies will actively pursue revitalizing street media using Wi-Fi, various promotions linking mobile media (primarily smartphones) with Wi-Fi, and developing new communication services leveraging Wi-Fi. Furthermore, in collaboration with Dentsu Inc.'s "Human Flow Lab," they plan to analyze and provide insights into human flow patterns using systems like those from Retail Next.
