Airweave has been selected as an Official Partner of Tokyo 2020.
Bedding manufacturer Airweave signed a Tokyo 2020 sponsorship agreement with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on April 27, becoming an Official Partner.
The contract category is "Bedding."
A press conference was held the same day at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Minato Ward. Chairman Motoharu Takaoka stated, "We take pride in the fact that starting as a venture company allowed us to create innovative bedding from a fresh perspective. We are delighted to be able to provide these products to Olympic and Paralympic athletes." He also expressed the company's commitment to actively collaborating with other partner companies and contributing to the Games' success by balancing eco-friendliness and comfort, including through the use of recyclable materials.
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori revealed, "Sleep is crucial for peak performance. We have secured the company to provide the complete bedding set for the Athletes' Village," adding, "We hope they will promote this comfortable sleep environment not only in Japan but worldwide."
Japan Olympic Committee (JOC) President Tsunekazu Takeda and Japan Paralympic Committee (JPC) Chairman Yasushi Yamawaki expressed gratitude that the company, as a longstanding JOC Official Partner and Official Supporter of the Japan Sports Association for Persons with Disabilities, has supported Japanese athletes at past Games. They also voiced expectations for its support at the Rio Games.
Table tennis player Kasumi Ishikawa, who has been using the company's products for four years, rushed to the venue. Ishikawa praised Airweave, saying, "It lets me sleep soundly and recover from fatigue," and expressed her determination to aim for medals at both the Rio and Tokyo Games through good sleep.
Regarding this partnership agreement being the first signed after the Games emblem was finalized, Chairman Takaoka remarked, "It's coincidental, but I feel a connection in how similar our company logo and the emblem's colors are." Chairman Mori added, "When I sat down, I felt the same warmth on my back as Airweave provides, so I turned around and saw the emblem," sparking laughter in the venue.
