On October 14, six months after the Kumamoto Earthquake, Kumamoto Prefecture released the web movie "Go Go Kumamoto!" on a special website and YouTube channel. It expresses the determination of its citizens to move forward into the future, transforming the support received from across Japan and around the world into strength.
The movie features approximately 900 residents, Governor Ikuo Kamashima, Kumamon, singer Kiyoko Suizenji, players from J2 League club Roasso Kumamoto, and other talents from the prefecture. It conveys gratitude for the extensive support, shows Kumamoto's "present," and aims to showcase the prefecture energetically looking forward.
The song uses "The March of 365 Steps" sung by Kumamoto native Mizumoto. At 20 locations across the prefecture—including Kumamoto Castle, Mount Aso, and schools—each performer takes turns singing the song.
The first verse remains the original lyrics, while the second verse is a Kumamoto version. The "Kuma-mon" flags held by the performers were created in June as a symbol of recovery, depicting Kumamon calling out to the citizens, "Let's unite our hearts and do our best!"
To coincide with the movie's release, the prefecture is inviting the public to submit "Cheer Friends!" messages of encouragement. Submit videos or still images using "The 365-Step March" and holding the "Kumamon Flag," and they will be featured sequentially on the special website.
