Supporting Organic Parenting! Unicharm Launches "Natural Moony"

On November 30, Unicharm held an event at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, to commemorate the launch of its premium paper diaper series, "Natural Moony."

At the event, celebrity Emiri Henmi, mother of a 3-year-old, and dermatologist Arata Tomori, mother of a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old, engaged in a talk session discussing parenting philosophies and the organic lifestyle they practice in their private lives.

Launched on October 25, "Natural Moony" is Japan's first disposable diaper to incorporate organic cotton into its surface sheet, increasing its fluffiness by 20% for gentle care on babies' delicate skin. Free from petroleum-derived oils, it features a mildly acidic surface sheet and a "loose stool absorption zone" with raised barriers that catch stool and prevent it from returning to the skin, reducing a common cause of skin irritation.

At the event, President and CEO Takahisa Takahara explained changes in the childcare environment and the company's long-term product development efforts. Following this, Yoko Kawakami, Assistant Manager of the Baby Division in the Global Marketing Department, discussed the mindset of today's expectant and new mothers, as well as the Moony brand and this product.

Afterwards, Ms. Henmi, who actively shares parenting insights on blogs, and Ms. Tomori, this year's Best Mother Award winner, appeared on stage.

Regarding baby skin, Ms. Tomori stated, "The biggest irritants are dryness and friction. These two factors cause inflammation, weaken the skin's barrier function, and lead to skin irritation. Baby skin is especially delicate, and the bottom area, wiped multiple times daily, is particularly prone to diaper rash. Choosing gentle, soft materials like those in this product is excellent. I believe it's wonderful for babies too."

Ms. Henmi shared with a smile, "My daughter also had very sensitive skin from infancy, and her bottom often turned red. I was careful daily, but her skin still became dry and flaky, or she would scratch and make it red. Now she's three and out of diapers, but I wish this product had been available when she was a baby. It's that good. I want to make a diaper cake with it and give it as a gift to a mom friend."
