Festival City Opens in Nakanoshima, Osaka
The Festival City skyscraper twin towers were completed in Nakanoshima, Kita Ward, Osaka City, with an opening ceremony held on April 17.
Located between the Dojima River and the Tosabori River, it symbolizes the "Water City Osaka" concept. It connects directly to Higobashi Station on the Yotsubashi Subway Line and Watanabebashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line. The complex consists of the already operational "Nakanoshima Festival Tower" (East Tower, 39 floors above ground, 3 below) and the "Nakanoshima Festival Tower West" (West Tower, 41 floors above ground, 4 below), completed at the end of March. Together, these twin towers stand at 200 meters, the tallest in Japan. On the same day, 17 shops opened in the West Tower, creating Festival Plaza, Nakanoshima's largest commercial facility with a total of 49 shops including those in the East Tower.
The offices in both towers are expected to accommodate 12,000 office workers. In addition to the Festival Hall in the East Tower and the Nakanoshima Kaikan multipurpose hall in the West Tower, the "Conrad Osaka" (West Tower) is scheduled to open in June, and the "Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum of Art" (West Tower) is planned to open in 2018.

At the ceremony, Hiroshi Sone, Head of the Osaka Nakanoshima Project Office at The Asahi Shimbun Company, representing the developers, stated: "Festival City will begin operations as a hub for creative information dissemination. It will become a landmark for Osaka as a hub for economic and cultural activities." He then celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Masato Namba, Vice President of Takenaka Corporation; Keisuke Abe, President of Asahi Building; and Keiko Demachiyanagi, the sixth-generation image character for Keihan Electric Railway.
