The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has opened a showroom near the Jingumae intersection in Shibuya, Tokyo, for a limited time (until November 29) starting in September to increase awareness of Tokyo 2020 official licensed merchandise.
In addition to displaying and selling merchandise, the store features a photo corner. Ahead of the 1000-day countdown to the Games, the showroom launched its second phase on October 19, featuring a refreshed interior and new commemorative merchandise marking the 1000-day milestone.
A launch event for the second phase was held on the 18th, showcasing the showroom and commemorative merchandise.
The products feature the "1000 Days to Go!" text and a new graphic motif of fireworks. Items include cafe tumblers, T-shirts, towels, pin badges, and support flags.
Asuka Cambridge, who anchored Japan's silver medal-winning 400m relay team at the Rio Olympics, attended the press conference.
Reflecting on Rio, Cambridge shared, "The stadium atmosphere and cheers were a fresh and great experience. Before the relay, I felt both nervousness and excitement. Running next to Usain Bolt as the anchor leg was the best feeling."
Wearing the soon-to-be-released "bow tie" and the "braided cord bracelet" available for pre-sale at the same location starting the 19th, Cambridge remarked, "Seeing these commemorative items really makes me realize it's already 1000 days until the Games. Since this showroom is in the heart of Harajuku, I hope it attracts attention from international travelers too."
The showroom will launch a "LINE Friend Registration Campaign" starting the 20th, offering a chance to win a "support flag" autographed by Cambridge in a lottery as a special benefit.
After signing the flag on the spot, Cambridge player muttered, "I should register and get a flag too..." making people laugh. He then expressed his determination: "For the Tokyo Games, I want to work hard to become an athlete who can compete for medals individually."
