"One Planet Festival×TOKYO" Event

WWF Japan and J-WAVE held the "One Planet Festival×TOKYO" (organized by the festival executive committee) on December 7 and 8 at Roppongi Hills Arena in Minato Ward, Tokyo. The event aimed to spread WWF's message of "One Planet Lifestyle—Living Just Right for the Earth," which advocates for a sustainable society in harmony with nature, and to help people discover enjoyable ways to shift their daily lives towards sustainability. Under the theme "Let's SHARE One Planet," it featured talk sessions, live performances, and more.

At the opening of the first day, Takamasa Higuchi, Executive Director of WWF Japan, stated: "The amount of resources the Earth can provide in a year is finite. This year's share was theoretically exhausted on August 20th, and this consumption rate is accelerating annually. To entrust a rich Earth to future generations, we hope this event will offer hints for avoiding this critical situation."

Freelance announcer and fair trade activist Rika Sueyoshi stated, "Small efforts by each individual matter. I hope people will dedicate 1% of their money, time, or heart to the global environment and poverty. That should spark significant action."

WWF Goodwill Ambassador Sakana-kun drew fish illustrations while quizzing children to convey the importance of environmental conservation. He emphasized the need to learn more about species like bluefin tuna and Japanese eel, whose populations are declining due to overfishing, water pollution, rising water temperatures, and other environmental changes.

Alvaro Cedeño Morinari, Costa Rica's Ambassador to Japan—a country renowned as an environmental leader—took the stage. "Japan is a wonderfully harmonious and kind society with a rich culture," he stated. "I encourage you to venture abroad and assist with environmental activities in less fortunate countries."

Additionally, live performances by artists like Yō Ito, who resonate with the One Planet Lifestyle concept, and talk sessions featuring violinist Ikuko Kawai, actress Norika Fujiwara, and singer Agnes Chan were held.

At the venue, partner organizations including the UNHCR Association of Japan and the Japan Committee for UNICEF, along with sponsoring companies Sony, LIXIL, IKEA Japan, Ecorica, Sanyo Shokai, Sumitomo Life, and Ben & Jerry's, exhibited at booths introducing their environmental initiatives.
