McDonald's "Local Gourmet Burger Festival" Summer vacation "delicious food tasting tour"
Starting August 8, McDonald's Japan will hold a limited-time "Taste Japan's Delicious Foods! Local Gourmet Burger Festival 2018," selling burgers featuring local specialties: the "Miyazaki Famous Chicken Nanban Burger," "Nagoya Famous Miso Katsu Burger," and "Kanazawa Famous Black Curry Katsu Burger." Additionally, alongside a campaign offering chances to win McDonald's gift cards and original merchandise, the company will launch a collaboration with the popular "Dragon Quest" game series.
The "Chicken Nanban Burger" will be sold nationwide, the "Miso Katsu Burger" will be sold only in the Eastern Japan area, and the "Black Curry Katsu Burger" will be sold only in the Western Japan area.

A press conference was held at the company's Tokyo facility on July 31.
Opening the event, Senior Manager Takanori Konoe of the Marketing Division stated, "We hope customers will enjoy comparing and savoring famous regional dishes from across Japan in the form of McDonald's burgers. We want them to experience local flavors they don't usually get to eat during summer vacation." He also outlined the campaign details, including coupons and original tote bags as prizes.

Next, Ryutaro Ichimura of Square Enix took the stage, describing the "Dragon Quest" campaign as "a collaboration we've really poured our hearts into." Limited quests will be available on the smartphone game "Dragon Quest: The Star" and McDonald's official app; clearing them will earn free or discounted coupons. Additionally, a Twitter campaign will offer chances to win "Dragon Quest" original design McDonald's gift cards and coveted fan items.

Joining the stage in flashy happi coats were singer Hiromi Go, comedian Dandy Sakano, and figure skater Mai Asada. They not only appear in the TV commercial "Sales Pitch Battle" (airing starting August 7th) but have also been appointed as sales captains. Hometown of Kyushu, Hiromi Go promoted the "Chicken Nanban Burger"; hometown of Ishikawa, Dandy Sakano promoted the "Black Curry Katsu Burger"; hometown of Aichi, Mai Asada promoted the "Miso Katsu Burger" – each putting their bodies on the line to promote their respective burgers.

Dandy, appearing in a commercial with Hiromi for the first time, was overwhelmed: "He's such a big star, I was really thrilled. Is it okay to be this close...?" Later that day, reuniting after the commercial shoot, he cracked a one-liner: "Long time no briefs!" Hiromi then imitated him with a "Long time no briefs back," bringing the house down.
The three sampled each burger. Mr. Go took a big bite and exclaimed, "The flavor of chicken nanban spreads in my mouth. Even though it's a burger, it feels like eating the famous dish itself. It's incredibly delicious!" he exclaimed, amazed by its high level of authenticity. Asada-san also praised it, beaming, "The breading on the cutlet is crispy. The sesame seeds kneaded into the bun give it a wonderful aroma." Dandy-san added, "The black curry sauce is superb. The combination with the cabbage is the best!" Each gave their respective burger their "stamp of approval."
