On October 17, general contractor Shimizu Corporation signed a sponsorship agreement with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, becoming an Official Supporter of the Games.
The contract category is "Facility Construction and Civil Engineering."
President Kazuyuki Inoue commented, "In line with our fundamental management philosophy of 'The Analects and the Abacus' and our corporate message 'Work we can be proud to pass on to our children,' we continue to support people with disabilities, promote the sport, and train volunteers, aiming to realize an inclusive society. We will contribute to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games so they become a joyful event full of hope for everyone."
Since 2015, the company has held the "Shimizu Volunteer Academy" six times, training approximately 500 participants—including executives, employees, and the general public—to become volunteers skilled in supporting people with disabilities.
Also since 2015, as an Official Partner of the Japan Disabled Sports Association, it has worked alongside the association to promote sports for people with disabilities. Since 2014, it has sponsored the "Everyone's Sports" experience events for disabled sports. Over 1,100 people participated in the 12 events held at branch locations nationwide.
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "The company contributed to the construction of the National Yoyogi Stadium First Gymnasium for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. We expect its sincere commitment to manufacturing and innovative spirit to provide strong support for the success of the 2020 Games as well."
