The Nippon Foundation signed an "Official Contributor" agreement with the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee for the Tokyo 2020 Games on February 9.
Unlike the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Program, this Official Contributor program targets non-profit organizations contributing to the Games. It grants rights to use titles and other designations domestically based on the nature of their contributions.
The Foundation's contributions include creating content for volunteer and volunteer leader training programs, developing instructors, training volunteer interviewers, and implementing events and publicity to foster volunteer enthusiasm.
Chairman Yohei Sasakawa commented, "Volunteers play a vital role in welcoming spectators from around the world, energizing the Games, and conveying Japan's appeal. The Foundation will leverage its accumulated expertise, experience, and network to support volunteer operations. We will also provide forward-looking support to ensure volunteers continue to serve as a driving force for society even after the Games conclude."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "We are very pleased and heartened to have the support of The Nippon Foundation, which possesses extensive knowledge in volunteer management, for the volunteer activities that will be central to the success of the Tokyo Games."
