Dentsu Inc. Director Masayoshi Nagahisa receives Special Commendation at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival

At the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, an international film festival recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, the film "We Are Little Zombies," directed and written by Masayoshi Nagahisa of Dentsu Inc., received a Special Mention from the Youth Jury in the Generation 14Plus section, which targets films for young audiences. This award is equivalent to the runner-up prize, second only to the top Crystal Bear award.
Held in Berlin, Germany, the Berlinale ranks among the world's three major film festivals alongside the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival. This marks the first time a Japanese film has won this award in this section.
Naga Hisa previously won the Grand Prize in the Short Film category at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was the first Japanese filmmaker to receive the Special Jury Prize at the same festival in 2019.

I am truly delighted to receive this award at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. More than that, I am surprised. I wish I could tell my self from three years ago, when I first aspired to make films.
The Berlin screening felt different from Sundance, where audiences enjoyed the music and game-like visual expressions as entertainment. Here, viewers seemed to engage with the film from a more philosophical, literary perspective—a contrast I found fascinating. As someone deeply influenced by European cinema, I was honored by such analysis. Having received this award, I feel a strong responsibility to live as a filmmaker worthy of the name "Berlin."
