Japan Coca-Cola Announces Tokyo Olympic Torch Runner Open Recruitment Campaign
Japan Coca-Cola, the Presenting Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay, will launch its "Olympic Support Campaign" nationwide starting June 17, coinciding with the start of its summer campaign. This campaign allows applicants to enter the torch runner recruitment and win event support merchandise.
Ahead of this, a campaign launch event was held in Tokyo on the 10th.

Kazufumi Watanabe, General Manager of Marketing, stated that with 412 days remaining until the Tokyo Olympics and 290 days until the torch relay begins at J-Village in Fukushima, "We want to further strengthen our bonds with consumers in the Olympic year next year. We aim to engage people nationwide during the torch relay, which will visit all 47 prefectures starting March 26, and share the excitement together during the Games themselves."
He also introduced the company's longstanding relationship with the Olympics and the Torch Relay, noting, "For over 90 years, we have undertaken various initiatives to ensure the Games remain an irreplaceable memory for Olympic fans and athletes." He expressed enthusiasm for continuing to contribute to the Olympics.
Kosuke Kitajima, former swimming medalist and Chief Olympic Officer at the company, commented on Tokyo hosting the Olympics for the first time in 56 years: "As an Olympian, I'm excited and looking forward to it now. Japanese athletes are winning more medals, making this a Games that will capture the attention of both Japan and the world." Regarding the public recruitment campaign for torchbearers, he shared his own experience, saying, "You can feel the joy of running with the torch and help build excitement for the Olympics together. I really hope you seize this opportunity," encouraging applications.

At the "TEAM COCA-COLA AMBASSADOR" appointment ceremony, actress Haruka Ayase, who appears in TV commercials, joined Kitajima to demonstrate the "torch kiss" – where torchbearers touch their torches together to transfer the flame.
Regarding her appointment as ambassador, Ayase expressed her determination with a fist pump, stating, "It's a tremendous honor. As a representative of Coca-Cola, I want to fully energize the Tokyo Games and the torch relay."
For the campaign, participants scan the Olympic support mark printed on eligible product packaging—such as Coca-Cola, Aquarius, and Georgia—using the camera function of the "Coke ON" smartphone app, fill in the required details, and submit their entry. Kitajima, who demonstrated the entry process, said, "It's great that you can easily get a chance to win using the app." Ayase also commented, "I really hope everyone will take this chance to enter."

Joining Ayase on stage for a simulated torch run experience were soccer player Ritsu Doan (FC Groningen), featured in Aquarius TV commercials; YouTube creators HIKAKIN, Hajime Shacho, Fishers, Tokai Onair, Mizutamari Bond, and Avanti's.
After running on the track set up inside the venue, Ayase smiled and said, "Running while feeling the weight of the torch creates a sense of tension. Hearing the cheers really lifted my spirits and made me imagine the real thing." Doan added, "Anyone can have a chance, so I hope people run with their friends and family."

A corner showcasing the company's history of Olympic partnerships was set up at the venue, displaying actual Olympic torch relay torches used in past Games, including the 1964 Tokyo Games.
In addition to these exhibits, the "Coca-Cola & Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay: 47 Prefectures Torch Runner Experience Tour" offers digital content for a simulated torch runner experience. It will be held at 54 venues nationwide from June 17 to August 31.
