Aiming to enhance competition and event management capabilities for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, test events for each sport began in earnest in July.
Events are held at the venues that will be used for the actual Games.
Events are categorized into two types: those hosted by the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee (named READY STEADY TOKYO) and international competitions hosted by domestic and international sports federations that are designated as test events.
The Organizing Committee created the "READY STEADY TOKYO" logo for use in its hosted events.
READY signifies "On your marks," while STEADY means "Steady and straight ahead." Together, they convey the message: "We are ready for the Games. Stay focused and move steadily toward success."

On July 6 and 7, the first READY STEADY TOKYO "Weightlifting" event (co-hosted by the Japan Weightlifting Association (JWA)) was held at Hall A of the Tokyo International Forum in Chiyoda Ward. Approximately 70 male and female athletes from 10 countries participated.
Hall A, a theater-style facility with a capacity of about 5,000 people, is typically used for concerts and similar events. This time, the event was held without admitting general spectators, only allowing those directly involved.

The latter part of the 7th featured the men's 109kg+ and women's 87kg and 87kg+ categories. Athletes demonstrated spirited lifts in the two mandatory events (Snatch and Clean & Jerk), performing with intensity akin to an actual competition. Lifts by Japanese athletes Eishiro Murakami and Asami Shimamoto drew loud cheers from attendees.
