On September 6, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced the "Tokyo 2020 'Make The Beat!'" project (in cooperation with Alibaba Cloud and Intel Corporation). The project aims to have spectators from around the world playing the official cheering beat "2020beat" at Tokyo Games venues to cheer on the athletes.

The official beat's story goes like this: Paralympic mascot Someity gathered sounds representing "competition," "Japanese culture," "people's lives," and "nature." Olympic mascot Miraitowa then used these sounds as a base, employing Intel AI solutions (provided by Intel Corporation, an Olympic Worldwide Partner) to create a total of five beats.
With the cooperation of the University of Tsukuba, the "2020beat" announced today was selected from five candidates.

To familiarize many spectators with the cheering beat and encourage them to play it at venues, the Organizing Committee will release videos on its website featuring athletes and artists from various fields performing the beat. Additionally, starting around autumn 2019, they will invite the public to post videos of "2020beat" on social media. Videos submitted from around the world will be displayed on screens at competition venues and live sites during the Games.
To enter, post a video of yourself playing the "2020beat" with the hashtag "#2020beat" or "#2020ビート". Play the beat however you like—clapping, instruments, etc. Alibaba Cloud technology will automatically stitch together submitted videos, with some shown at competition venues. The Organizing Committee states this allows people to participate in the Games and send their support to athletes even if they cannot attend in person.
