Olympic Torch Relay Approximately 540,000 runner applications

On September 26, the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee announced that a total of 535,717 applications were received for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay runner recruitment.
It is said that approximately 10,000 people will run in the actual torch relay.

These torchbearers were recruited by the four Presenting Partners of the Torch Relay—"Japan Coca-Cola," "Toyota Motor Corporation," "Nippon Life Insurance," and "NTT"—along with the "Prefectural Executive Committees."
Applicants could apply once to each recruiting entity, with a maximum of five applications per person. The total number includes duplicate applications.

Moving forward, the organizing committees and the four presenting partners will select candidates and recommend them to the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee will then determine the torchbearers. Notification of selection to the individuals is expected to begin in December 2019 or later.
