The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced on December 3 the design of the support vehicles that will run alongside torchbearers and energize the atmosphere during the Tokyo Olympic Torch Relay. The relay will start at J-Village in Fukushima Prefecture on March 26, 2020, and travel nationwide.

The pace cars will alert spectators along the route to the relay's arrival, help build excitement to welcome the flame and runners, and support the safe and reliable operation of the relay.
The escort vehicles, provided with the cooperation of Toyota Motor Corporation—a Worldwide Olympic Partner and the Olympic Torch Presenting Partner—will consist of various models, including environmentally conscious hybrid vehicles.
The design reflects the Olympic Torch Relay concept, "Hope Lights Our Way / Connecting the Path of Hope." The ochre earth depicted on the vehicle body and the flame of the sacred fire rising from it connect to the rear, with the entire convoy representing a single "Path of Hope."
