Domino's Pizza Japan Commemorative Event for 35th Anniversary of Home Delivery Service

Domino's Pizza Japan, a delivery pizza chain, held an online event on September 29 to commemorate its 35th anniversary in Japan. The company opened its first store in Ebisu, Tokyo, on September 30, 1985, and began its pizza delivery service.

At the start, President Joshua Kirimnik expressed gratitude to consumers and employees. To commemorate the opening of its 700th store, he announced a discount campaign for the popular "Quattro Happy" pizza and the sale of the anniversary "Premium Shake Colorful Cake." He also declared September 30th as "Delivery Pizza Day." Furthermore, the company revealed its goal of reaching 1,000 stores by 2030, while promoting delivery using electric vehicles and supporting local communities through initiatives like providing free pizza to medical workers, teachers, and schoolchildren.

Special guest Kaori Makabe, a celebrity who identifies as a Domino's fan, appeared at the event and looked back on 35 years of history with Executive Officer Hiroyuki Kakinouchi.
Topics ranged widely, including the 30-minute delivery guarantee at service launch, the development of dedicated three-wheeled delivery bikes, the introduction of original menus tailored for the Japanese market, the birth of hit products, and the industry's first e-commerce site and delivery ordering app. Manabe expressed deep admiration, stating, "It's amazing how they anticipate user needs and make them a reality."

When the conversation turned to "GPS Point Delivery"—which uses GPS to specify delivery locations even outdoors—and the "GPS Driver Tracker" system that lets customers track delivery progress on a map, Manabe commented, "For those waiting for delivery, it's a huge help in using time efficiently."
Even in recent years, the evolution of services shows no signs of stopping, with the full-scale introduction of electric bicycle deliveries and the announcement of the "3TEN" project aiming for 3-minute takeout and 10-minute home delivery.
Then, in 2020, Domino's announced the "elimination of minimum delivery order amounts" and "50% off all takeout items." Manabe expressed concern, asking, "Domino's, are you really okay with this?" but added, "The evolution of delivery pizza is Domino's passion. I'll keep supporting and expecting great things from them." Director Kakinouchi responded, "We will continue to improve our services in line with technological advancements."

The two celebrated the 35th anniversary with the "Quattro Happy" pizza, offering four distinct flavors, and the "Premium Shake Colorful Cake." When Mr. Manabe, a certified cheese professional, suggested, "I'd love for Domino's to develop a pizza that pairs well with wine," Director Kakiuchi smiled and replied, "We'd definitely like Mr. Manabe to oversee that."
