The Tokyo Metropolitan Election Management Committee is running an advertising campaign aimed at boosting voter turnout for the gubernatorial election on February 9. The campaign slogan is "There's something we can do." Alongside video ads, posters, and a dedicated website, a "Governor Election Message Bus" is traveling around Tokyo to encourage voting.
The Message Bus traveled approximately 700 kilometers within Tokyo from January 25 to February 5, holding events at five venues including Shinjuku and Ueno. At each venue, residents wrote messages for the gubernatorial election on seven-colored stickers and affixed them to a white bus. On the final day, February 5th, a reveal event for the message bus—now rainbow-colored from the stickers—was held at the main entrance on the 2nd floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The association's mascot, "Election Meisukun," affixed the final sticker reading "Thank you. Please go vote," completing the message bus adorned with approximately 1,800 stickers. The event introduced some of the posted messages, such as: "Young people will vote too!", "I'm super undecided... but I'm voting!!", "My daughter's first election is the Tokyo gubernatorial race!!", "I can't vote now, but I'll vote when I'm an adult!!", and "Let's build a Tokyo the world can be proud of!", while also promoting early voting until February 8th and voting on February 9th.
The video ad campaign runs on TV spots, street-side digital displays, monitors in stations and trains, and YouTube. It shows people of various ages heading to vote, announcing the election date and early voting.
Posters depicting people of all generations heading to vote are displayed inside trains and stations along major Tokyo lines. The special website features information about the gubernatorial election, the video ad, posters, and photos of Tokyo residents who wrote messages on the bus stickers.
