Video Research Ltd. conducted and released a pre-Sochi Olympics survey ahead of the Games opening on February 7. The results revealed the following trends:

・Approximately half of respondents stated they "want to watch the games live."
・Top-ranked events and athletes expected to win medals include figure skaters Mao Asada, Daisuke Takahashi, and Yuzuru Hanyu, along with ski jumpers Sara Takanashi and Noriaki Kasai.
・For the "Women's Figure Skating" event featuring Asada, broadcasts in Japan are scheduled for late night to early morning, yet over 40% of respondents stated they "want to watch it live." Interest in watching popular events in real time remains high regardless of broadcast time.
・Regarding ways to enjoy the Games beyond TV viewing, 30% of respondents said they want to use official Olympic video streaming sites like the commercial broadcaster's "gorin.jp". Additionally, 10% plan to watch Olympic programming while browsing or posting on Twitter, SNS, or the internet.
