Joint Project "Metaverse Production" Launched to Reduce Greenhouse Gases and Improve Process Efficiency in Video Production
Dentsu Inc. Creative X, together withTohoku Shinshaand Hibino, has launched the joint project "Metaverse Production," aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve process efficiency in video production workflows through the use of technology.
Through "Metaverse Production," the "PX Service" will be offered starting in 2022. This service aims to achieve significant reductions—such as "up to 90% reduction in waste materials during studio shoots" and "up to 90% reduction in personnel required for location shoots"—compared to conventional film production workflows at Tohokushinsha and Dentsu Inc. Creative X. This is achieved by fully utilizing virtual production technology* employing in-camera VFX.
(PX is an abbreviation for Production Transformation, a coined term signifying transformation in film production)
*Virtual production technology using in-camera VFX:
A filming technique combining LED display systems, camera tracking, and real-time rendering. By projecting CG-created scenes (virtual worlds) onto high-definition LED displays and filming subjects alongside cameras synchronized with the virtual world, real-time filming within virtual spaces becomes possible.

■ Examples and Key Points of PX Products Planned for Development by "Metaverse Production"
① "Owned Virtual Set" and "Owned Virtual Location":
Custom-made CG art sets and CG locations are produced upon request, creating reusable virtual assets (virtual worlds) owned by advertisers. This reduces waste volume and staff workload.
② "Live-Action Location VFX":
By pre-shooting live-action backgrounds as separate assets, we minimize personnel required for location shoots. Additionally, by filming talent in studios with background assets projected onto large LED screens, we free production from the time and space constraints of traditional location shoots, enabling filming at any time, place, or weather condition.
③ "Virtual House Studio":
By selecting art sets from pre-prepared template CG assets and applying minor customization, prefix production becomes possible, achieving both thorough efficiency and high quality in video production.
The core "CG production" for "Metaverse Production" is centered around Omnibus Japan, part of the Tohokushinsha Group. The "in-camera VFX shooting system" and "high-definition large LED panels" are implemented with the cooperation of Hibino.
Going forward, we will focus on developing and providing the "PX Service" to meet diverse needs, from video production on reasonable budgets to high-end projects, aiming to establish it as the future standard.
