Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee Board Meeting Held

  

 

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held its first full board meeting on March 26 at Hotel Okura Tokyo in Minato Ward. Honorary Chairman Fujio Mitarai (Honorary Chairman of Keidanren) and Chairman Yoshiro Mori attended alongside 33 other board members. In addition to representatives from political, business, and related organizations, the board includes Olympians Hiroyuki Murofushi (track and field), Ayumi Tanimoto (judo), Rie Tanaka (gymnastics), Yoko Söderlund (volleyball), Paralympian Mayumi Narita (swimming), lyricist Yasushi Akimoto, and photographer Mika Ninagawa, among others, ensuring a broad representation from various fields.

At the outset, Chairman Mori stated, "Two months after its launch, the committee's lineup is now complete. Let us all join forces to ensure the success of the Tokyo Games." Honorary Chairman Mitarai remarked, "I will work alongside everyone to make this a wonderful Games that will remain in the memories of people around the world." All other directors also shared their aspirations.

 

Following the board meeting, Chairman Mori announced at a press conference the appointment of six Vice Chairmen: Director Akio Toyoda (President of Toyota Motor Corporation), Director Ichiro Kono (Chairman of the Japan Sports Council), Director Yasushi Yamawaki (Member of the International Paralympic Committee), and others. Honorary President Motai stated, "The vision for the Games is to share with the world the power of sport, which the Japanese people rediscovered during the earthquake recovery, and to contribute to enhancing the value of sport in society." Vice President Tsunekazu Takeda (President of the Japanese Olympic Committee) said, "To make this an athlete-first Games, we will respect the opinions of the Olympians and Paralympians serving as directors." Secretary General Toshiro Muto (Chairman of Daiwa Institute of Research) explained the FY2014 business plan, which includes "formulating the Games' basic plan and steadily advancing preparations such as temporary facilities" and "marketing and strategic public relations activities." He revealed the budget scale for the fiscal year is 2.48 billion yen.
