[Call for Participants] Side B Summit—A gathering of people who are making the most of their “Side B” or want to! September 27

Dentsu Inc.’s cross-functional organization, “Dentsu B Team,” is recruiting participants for the “B-Side Summit,” an event to be held on Sunday, September 27.

The Dentsu Inc. B Team is an “alternative approach” team that brings together Dentsu Inc. employees who, in addition to their “A-side” (primary job), have a personal “B-side”—such as private activities (side jobs), hobbies, previous careers, or college majors—to propose new ways of doing things, or “Plan B.” Marking the 12th anniversary of its inception, the team is hosting the first-ever “B-Side Summit” as a platform for a B-side network that transcends organizational and corporate boundaries.

Anyone is welcome to participate—whether you have a “B-side” of your own, are simply interested, or are hearing about it for the first time. A variety of programs are planned, including a “B-side Self-Introduction Session” designed to facilitate connections. A “B-side Directory” is also scheduled to be created.

[Message from the Organizer]
July 2014. When we first defined our “A-side” as our main job and our “B-side” as our personal interests, and employees with B-sides came together to form the “Dentsu B Team” (then known as DENTSU SOKEN INC. B Team), the term “B-side” referred to the B-side of records or cassettes—not to people’s special skills or talents.Since then, as we continued to recruit employees with a “B-side,” sharing the latest insights drawn from those personal sides, launching projects together, and collaborating with our clients, societal trends have shifted. Now, 12 years later, we’ve noticed that the use of the term “B-side” in the context of human resources has surged and become quite mainstream.Since Dentsu Inc. B Team began as a “movement” aimed at designing a new society by leveraging people’s personal sides—their “B-sides”—this development is truly gratifying. However, what sets today apart from 12 years ago is not only the shift in work styles and the rise of side hustles but also AI. What one loves and what one excels at have become even more important.The “B-side” is packed with what is truly human and important (I wonder if AI even has a “B-side”?). We decided to host this summit because we believed it would create a space for interaction rooted in these very human aspects. Furthermore, to foster even more change stemming from the “B-side,” we’d like to share the methods and past examples the Dentsu Inc. B Team has consistently practiced—ways to integrate the “B-side” into the “A-side” (one’s main profession)—to further advance this movement. I look forward to the connections we’ll make through the “B-side.”
