Video Research Ltd. has released a portion of its time-shift viewing survey data.
Video Research Ltd. has been advancing research on time-shifted viewing (viewing recorded programs) to capture recent changes in TV viewing trends and understand actual program viewing patterns.
Building on research into measurement technology development and aggregation methods, they began a timeshift survey aligned with the Kanto region's viewership rating survey specifications in October 2013. They have now released a portion of this survey data.
Preparations are now underway for the start of data provision (scheduled for January 2015).
■Survey Overview: Same specifications as the Kanto Region Viewership Rating Survey (PM) <Conducted using a separate sample>
◇Survey Area: Same area as the Kanto Region Viewership Rating Survey (PM)
◇Survey Target Households owning a "private television" residing in the above area
and all family members aged 4 and older residing within the household
*Approximately 78% of these households are capable of time-shift viewing
◇Sampling Based on national census statistics, "reference households" were selected via random single-stage systematic sampling
◇Survey Sample Size 300 households (approx. 800 individuals)
*Number of individuals per household fluctuates daily due to rotation, etc.
◇Survey Method Mechanical (PM) survey using audio fingerprinting

*The aggregation period is April–June 2014 (Monday, March 31, 2014 – Sunday, June 29, 2014) as defined by Video Research Ltd.
*Programs broadcast on the five terrestrial commercial stations in the Kanto region plus NHK General TV, with a broadcast duration of 15 minutes or more (excluding weather forecasts, program guides, etc.), were included.
* "Program average 7-day playback rate" refers to the program playback rate within the 7-day period starting the day after the broadcast date, in addition to the broadcast date itself.
*For programs aired multiple times, the playback rate shown is the average of all broadcasts within the period.
*Regular programs display information for their standard broadcasts (if only one broadcast occurred within the period, the broadcast date's program information is displayed).
*Programs with identical playback rates are listed in order of broadcast date (for programs aired multiple times, the first broadcast date) and broadcast time.
■Future Plans
We are preparing the delivery system for the start of data provision scheduled for January 2015.
