Mirei Kiritani Tries "Sma Photo Print" with an Adorable Yet Ugly Cat

Canon held a press conference for inkjet printers at Canon Hall in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on August 28.

Opening the event, Masami Kawasaki, President of Canon Marketing Japan, noted the shift in host devices connecting to printers from PCs to smartphones and tablets. He explained, "This is a turning point and an opportunity for printers," adding, "We want to actively propose solutions to help establish printing habits."

A total of 15 new models were announced, spanning the home multifunction printer "PIXUS" series, the business multifunction printer "MAXIFY" series, and the "Satera" series.

 

Actress Mirei Kiritani, the communication partner for the PIXUS series, and actor Kanji Ishimaru, who co-starred with her in commercials, appeared on stage.

 
 
 

Ms. Kiritani stated, "PIXUS adds new features every year, so I want to convey its appeal again this year." The "PIXUS Cat-Loving Ms. Kiritani/Smart Photo Print" commercial, which began airing on September 4th, highlights how PIXUS can easily and beautifully print smartphone photos. It does this through the comical and surreal banter between cat-loving Ms. Kiritani and her serious, kind boss, Mr. Ishimaru, who is flustered by his cat-loving subordinate.

Regarding their first collaboration, Mr. Ishimaru remarked, "Seeing his genuinely animal-loving expression, I thought it was wonderful." Mr. Kiritani responded, "Mr. Ishimaru's kindness and warmth embody my ideal boss."

When Leon, the cat featured in the commercial, made a surprise appearance, Kirigaya exclaimed, "This ugly-cute charm is irresistible!" and took photos with his smartphone. He immediately tried PIXUS's "Smart Photo Print" feature – simply selecting the photo he wanted to print via the free dedicated app "PIXUS Print" and touching the printer. Holding the finished print, he looked delighted. Ishima was also thoroughly impressed by the high quality, remarking, "If it can print this beautifully, I'll want to give them as gifts all the time."
