Suntory Beverage & Food opened "The Corner Highball CM Shop," recreating the world of its "Kakubin" whiskey TV commercial, for six days from October 8th to 13th. Locations were the Grand Roof Plaza at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo and the Knowledge Plaza at Grand Front Osaka. Opening events were held at both venues on the first day.
October 8th is registered with the Japan Anniversary Association as "Kakubin Highball Day," commemorating the launch date of Kakubin. Speaking at the Tokyo venue, Suntory Liquor President Atsushi Koizumi stated, "We are delighted that Kakubin, launched in 1937 as a Japanese whisky rather than imitating Scotch, continues to be loved by so many people."
At the venue, Haruka Igawa, the main character of the TV commercial, appeared as the store's owner. She seemed satisfied with the high-fidelity recreation of the shop interior, including the hanging lanterns that inspired the store's name in the commercial. Holding a highball – which she said she "liked even before appearing in the commercial" – she toasted with a "Highball!" cheer to celebrate the opening.
The shop primarily serves fried dishes like karaage chicken and fried fatty horse mackerel, featuring Kakubin as a secret ingredient—perfect snacks that pair well with the Kakubin Highball, also featured in the commercial.
