The National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan (NABJ) held its 62nd National Commercial Broadcasting Convention at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on November 5. The event included a convention ceremony, a commemorative lecture, two symposia on television and radio, and a special exhibition.
At the conference ceremony, Chairman Hiroshi Inoue (Chairman of TBS Television) delivered an address. Reflecting on a year marked by major disasters, he expressed his determination: "We must continue our efforts to fulfill our mission as a lifeline, ensuring we can deliver accurate information during disasters." Amidst significant changes in the environment surrounding broadcast media, he demonstrated enthusiasm for initiatives including advancing discussions to enhance the value of commercial broadcasting media, combating illegal online videos, promoting a deeper understanding of radio's appeal, and adapting to the evolution of broadcasting technology.
Following video messages from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Sanae Takaichi, and NHK Chairman Katsuto Momii, Yuichi Takahashi, Chairman of the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association (President of TV Tokyo), took the stage. He stated, "The environment surrounding broadcasting continues to change alongside advances in information and communication technology. We, the commercial broadcasters, will constantly strive to enhance our services for the future. We consider it our most important mission to deliver accurate and timely information, as well as rich and high-quality content, to strengthen the trust we have built with our viewers and listeners. We pledge to fulfill this mission."
Following the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association Awards ceremony, the 10th Japan Broadcasting Culture Awards were announced. In the television category, the Grand Prix went to Chukyo Television Broadcasting's "NNN Documentary '14 Mothers: Special Adoption and Truth Disclosure," with the Runner-up Grand Prix awarded to Nagasaki Broadcasting's "Human Gods." In the radio category, the Grand Prix went to Chugoku Broadcasting's "Love & Peace! Okonomiyaki," and the runner-up prize went to FM Tokyo's "TOKYO FM Special Program 'Looking Ahead: LOVE & HOPE ~Spring News from the Third Year~.'"
