Launch of the "Agricultural Product High Value-Added Project" Based on Genome Analysis

Fusing cutting-edge technology and marketing to pursue regional revitalization starting from agriculture

 

Dentsu Inc. and Niigata City, and Genomedia (hereinafter "Genomedia") signed a collaboration agreement on January 28th, launching the "High Value-Added Agricultural Products Project" aimed at regional revitalization starting from agriculture.

In 2014, Niigata City was designated a National Strategic Special Zone as a hub for large-scale agricultural reform. This project strategically undertakes initiatives within the city, ranging from crop variety improvement to processed product development and brand development. By collaborating with local producers and processors, it aims to achieve continuous production of high-value-added agricultural products and goods from both "science" and "marketing" perspectives. The ultimate goals are regional revitalization in Niigata, revitalization of Japanese agriculture, and strengthening its international competitiveness.

This project applies the genome analysis technology of Genomedia, a venture company originating from the University of Tokyo, to agricultural products and related agricultural businesses. By matching consumer needs for agricultural products collected and analyzed by Dentsu Inc., or challenges faced by producers, with genome analysis technology, the project establishes a value chain connecting demand and supply through collaboration with Niigata and local producers, using a market-driven approach.
