Four local stations team up to "energize Shizuoka." Female announcers passionately convey their vision to the governor.
The joint campaign "Shizuoka wktk Project" by Shizuoka Prefecture's four commercial broadcasters (Shizuoka Daiichi Television, Shizuoka Asahi Television, Shizuoka Broadcasting System, and TV Shizuoka) launched on March 2nd. This initiative, planned by the four local stations transcending network affiliations, aims to revitalize the prefecture, which faces serious challenges like population decline and corporate withdrawals. The catchphrase, "Excuse me m(_ _)m Shizuoka Prefecture," plays on the local habit of frequently saying "sumimasen" (excuse me) even when not at fault. The goal is to convey Shizuoka's appeal to both residents and outsiders using relatable language, hoping to increase tourism and encourage relocation and settlement. The campaign features the limited-time PR group "4siz," formed by female announcers from the four stations; the newly developed mascot character "Fujitan"; and the comedy duo "Total Tenbos," originally from Gotemba City in Shizuoka Prefecture, who will also support the project as cheerleaders.
On the campaign's first day, the presidents of the four stations, along with 4siz dressed in uniforms inspired by Mount Fuji and Total Tenbos, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Heita Kawakatsu at the prefectural office. They explained the purpose of this rare nationwide campaign, a joint initiative transcending station affiliations, and expressed their enthusiasm for the activities. Governor Kawakatsu stated, "Shizuoka Prefecture has beautiful scenery, delicious food, and wonderful people. We also possess world-class assets like Mount Fuji. We are confident," expressing his expectations for the campaign.

The campaign runs until the end of December this year. Each station has its own initiative: Shizuoka Daiichi Television is collecting photos and videos of cats that look like they're apologizing ("Sorry" or "My bad"), while Shizuoka Asahi Television is seeking "my proud photos that are somehow endearing and impossible to dislike." Shizuoka Broadcasting Corporation features weather forecaster Minoru Hirezaki temporarily joining companies and schools to showcase his skills and anecdotes. TV Shizuoka is collecting senryu poems themed around the prefecture. The website launched on March 2nd showcases Fujitan commercials, each station's initiatives, and 4siz's activities.
