On October 9th, the launch of the "Japan Ninja Council" was announced at Hotel Le Port Kojimachi in Chiyoda Ward.
The Japan Ninja Council (English name: Japan Ninja Council) is an organization aiming to promote tourism, cultural advancement, and regional economic revitalization utilizing ninja culture. It brings together ninjas nationwide, along with related municipalities, universities, tourism associations, and the national government. ( http://ninja-official.com/ )
At the opening, amidst the thunderous beating of large Japanese drums, the founding members (Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, Mayor of Odawara City, Mayor of Ueda City, Governor of Mie Prefecture, Mayor of Iga City, President of the Iga-Ueno Tourism Association, Governor of Shiga Prefecture, Mayor of Koka City, Governor of Saga Prefecture, Mayor of Ureshino City, Vice President of the Council) took the stage. Dressed in ninja costumes incorporating the unique characteristics and traditions of each region, with swords at their waists, their appearance on the stage was truly spectacular.
Vice Chairman Hiroshi Mizohata (former Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency) stated the founding purpose: "Ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, we will position 'NINJA'—considered the ultimate Cool Japan content—as a cultural asset of Japan and a valuable regional resource. Our activities aim to revitalize tourism resources, including inbound tourism, stimulate the regional economy, and network municipalities nationwide involved with ninja."
Following this, the microphone was passed to each leader in turn, starting with Governor Eikei Suzuki of Mie Prefecture, who was appointed as the first chairman. Each spoke about their region's ninja culture and their enthusiasm for the future of ninja.
Then, Ichikawa Ebizo, who had rushed to the event to join as a supporter, took the stage in a suit and lightened the mood by saying, "Thank you for inviting me to this cosplay party."
To commemorate his appointment, the council presented Ebizo with a ninja sword and ninja attire. He drew the sword, gave it a swift swing, and beamed, "This is quite authentic. My sons are going to want one!"
Finally, the members arranged themselves in a fan shape from the center of the stage for the unveiling of the council's logo. Ebizo, holding the veil's drawstring, caused a bit of a mishap by pulling it down prematurely, keeping the venue buzzing right up until the very end.
