Olympic and Paralympic highlights appear in Nihonbashi

Mitsui Fudosan, a Gold Partner (City Development Partner) for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is conducting a large-scale "City Dressing" initiative (co-hosted by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) in the Nihonbashi area of Chuo Ward, Tokyo, from October 10th to 25th. This involves decorating the city using footage from past Games and portraits of Olympians and Paralympians.

At the opening ceremony held on the 9th along Nihonbashi Nakadori, President Masanobu Komoda stated, "We planned this event because we wanted to send a message of support for the Games and the athletes from Nihonbashi—a place connected to our company and the starting point of the five major roads since the Edo period—out to the whole country. Starting with this, we aim to utilize venues across Japan, including the Tokyo Bay area, to carry out activities that energize both the city and the Olympic and Paralympic Games." Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori remarked, "The key points of the Games are how to engage young people and making it a festival for major cities. Events like this are greatly appreciated to sustain the joy felt when the bid was won."

As the speakers pressed the switch on stage, the overhead LED panels along Nakadori's "Memorial Street" displayed footage of athletes in action at the London Games, accompanied by the cheers from that time. Additionally, CG-enhanced footage of the competitions and immersive sound effects recreated the atmosphere of being at the actual venues.

Paralympian Mami Sato and Olympian judoka Tadahiro Nomura shared their impressions: "It brought back the tension of the London Games and made me even more excited for 2020," and "I envy the athletes featured. Events that focus on the athletes really boost motivation."

Alongside Memorial Street, this project also features wall banners and digital signage displays at Coredo Muromachi 1-3.
