US★US TV Program Advertising Fee Rankings: "Empire: The Price of Success" Sets Record High for Drama

Ad Age has estimated and ranked the cost of 30-second TV spots during 2015 U.S. television programs.

Reflecting the unwavering popularity of live football broadcasts, NBC's "Sunday Night Football" took the top spot, with a 30-second TV spot averaging $603,000. Breaking into the top two this year, which last year was also dominated by live football, was FOX's music industry drama "Empire." Its spot price was $497,364, marking the highest price for a drama since ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" ($419,000) in the 2007-08 season. CBS's "Thursday Night Football" ranked third at $464,625.

Meanwhile, CBS's "The Big Bang Theory," which had commanded the highest commercial rates for dramas over the past several years, remained nearly unchanged at $348,300, dropping from third to fourth place. The biggest increase was seen by ABC's legal drama How to Get Away with Murder, which premiered last season. Its ad rates jumped 73% year-over-year to $252,934, propelling it to fifth place in its second year. The top ten rankings are as follows:
