The Japan Frozen Food Association held a PR event on October 15 at the Royal Park Hotel in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, titled "October 18 is 'Frozen Food Day' ~ Frozen Foods That Delight the Heart ~".
"Frozen Food Day" is observed annually on October 18th. The date was established by the association in 1985, inspired by the character for "frozen" (凍 = 10) and the globally standard storage temperature for frozen foods of -18°C or below. A PR event is held each year to mark the occasion.
This year, priority was given to those with birthdays or wedding anniversaries on October 18th in the lottery, and 100 selected couples (200 people) were invited to the venue.
Part 1 began with an opening address by the association's chairman, Masatoshi Ito (Chairman of Ajinomoto), who stated, "Frozen foods are the food of the future, full of dreams." Guest Hikari Ishida then appeared and held a talk session with Chairman Ito, discussing topics related to frozen foods and dietary habits.
"I didn't use frozen foods much before," said Ms. Ishida, mother of two daughters in fifth and sixth grade. "But after a friend told me about their safety, deliciousness, convenience, and how good they are for keeping bento boxes cool, they became indispensable."
When asked about her home life, she revealed herself to be a strict mother. "I always lecture them, saying, 'There are people in the world who can't eat, yet you get to choose what you eat. I won't tolerate picky eating,'" showing a side different from her actress persona.
At the event, she showed photos of her children's lunchboxes and demonstrated making her original dry curry recipe using frozen hamburger patties and mixed vegetables. The aroma of curry filled the venue, inviting attendees to the tasting session in Part 2.
For the second part, the venue shifted to the Royal Park Hotel, where participants sampled dishes created by the hotel's chefs using frozen foods. Ishida's original dry curry recipe was also served at the venue, and she was seen personally serving it to attendees. Participants were thoroughly satisfied, relishing the frozen food dishes prepared by top chefs.
