Dentsu Inc. International Information Services (ISID) launched "potaVee," an area-restricted distribution platform for smartphones, on November 13.
potaVee is a platform that uses Wi-Fi to simultaneously distribute video, audio, and text information to users within a specific area. It enables the delivery of highly localized, detailed information to the smartphones and tablets of numerous attendees at venues like event spaces, sports facilities, and theaters. Compatible with iOS and Android devices, it also supports One Seg-equipped devices when combined with Area One Seg technology, enabling service delivery across a wide range of devices. It can also be applied for disaster prevention broadcasts by municipalities and educational institutions during emergencies.
The brand name potaVee embodies the meaning "portable vision" – a new video distribution system that enables users to carry it with them and access diverse information at their fingertips. As a platform pioneering a new market for content distribution services, it will be offered to event operators, various commercial facilities, local governments, and educational institutions.
As mobile devices proliferate and the market for Wi-Fi-based distribution services expands, conventional Wi-Fi systems, which send information one-to-one per device, could not simultaneously broadcast to multiple devices within the same area. ISID addressed this challenge with its proprietary multicast transmission technology, successfully demonstrating its practical application through repeated field tests at large-scale event venues like the Sapporo Snow Festival and Suzuka Circuit.
