The Bridge, a news media outlet covering startups and technology, is making its first foray into organizing a live event.

On February 19th, " The Bridge Fes" will be held in Shibuya, Tokyo—often called the "holy land" for Japanese startups. The event will feature startup demos and sessions led by entrepreneurs and investors.
We spoke with Takeshi Hirano, CEO of The Bridge, the organizer.

First, the event's biggest feature is its trade show format, gathering 100 startups.

"While pitch events and other presentation-focused events are mainstream these days, adopting a trade show style naturally creates touchpoints between attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors. Therefore, our theme this time is to make it not just an event to 'watch,' but one that all participants can 'utilize.'"

Exhibitors are recruited and selected from The Bridge's member companies, showcasing startups that The Bridge is particularly focused on.

Additionally, session programs will be held on the main stage. Approximately 30 speakers, including operators of popular services like Mixi, Mercari, and Enica, as well as investors, sponsors, and media representatives, will participate in 12 talk sessions.

Furthermore, Fuji Television and Dentsu Inc. are collaborating on planning this event. Unprecedented production elements will be implemented, such as placing the main stage at the venue's center and planning a late-night special program to report on the event. "Using this event as a prototype, we aim to host events that engage the general public, like the Tokyo Motor Show, and serve as a bridge to startup companies," explained Mr. Hirano, outlining the rationale for integrating entertainment.

"In today's era, relying solely on existing structures is difficult. I believe Japan will face challenges unless we continuously generate new businesses. Including future plans, our ideal is for The Bridge Fes to lower the barriers to entrepreneurship even slightly and become a place where people can feel closer to startup services."
