Dentsu Inc. Acquires Domestic Commercialization and Advertising Rights for "TETRIS" in Japan
Dentsu Inc. and The Tetris Company, LLC announced on March 16 that they have concluded a licensing agreement for the commercialization and advertising use of TETRIS within Japan.
This agreement grants Dentsu Inc. exclusive agency rights in Japan for the next three years to conduct sponsor sales utilizing the merchandising and advertising rights for TETRIS, one of the world's best-selling games.
Potential tie-in industries for promotional activities utilizing Tetris merchandising and advertising rights include apparel, beverages, food, toys, stationery, and kitchenware. High demand is also anticipated for its use in prize items.
TETRIS is a globally renowned video game and lifestyle brand. The game has been released in over 50 languages and is played in more than 185 countries. Currently, TETRIS offers a wide range of lifestyle products in major markets including the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand.
Overseas, TETRIS has established an image as "pop" and "cool." Similarly in Japan, the company will pursue initiatives to present TETRIS's design aesthetic as cool and fashionable.
The company believes that communicating with men and women in their late 20s to 40s, who are highly attuned to trends, is key to cultivating this brand image. For example, it is considering initiatives such as DJ events featuring TETRIS background music and TETRIS bars where guests can enjoy TETRIS-themed cocktails.
